Taljaardtsvlei orchid outing

The LOG had an outing planned to Kemp's Heights in January, but the weather and torrential rain caused havoc on the roads and they were simply too dangerous.  We opted to go to Taljaardtsvlei near Ngodwana instead.

The vlei is well protected within Sappi property and always offer a large variety of orchids in vast quantities.  It is truly one of Mpumalanga's best orchid hot spots.

The orchids were less plentiful than normal this year, but the vlei did not disappoint.  Vast quantities of Schizochilus zeyheri dotted the landscape in bright yellow and we also found Disperis renibractea and Disa stachyoides.
